When a brand books a conference interview or a hosted interview with Talk Commerce, the brand team or their PR agency wants to know where the finished video will land, and the audio deserves the same attention, because every interview we record becomes a podcast episode that part of the audience will hear without ever seeing a frame of it.

This post covers where the video lands, where the audio lands, how earned and paid interviews differ, and how to prepare for the day you record.

Two kinds of interviews, one publishing path

Conference interviews happen at the event. We come to your booth with professional camera and audio gear and record a guided conversation, a short spotlight interview of about three minutes or a deeper fifteen-minute interview, depending on the package you booked on the conference interview page.

Hosted interviews happen online. I record them in Riverside, you join from your own office with a link, and the conversation runs the length of a full episode.

Once the recording ends, both kinds of interviews follow the same path. We edit the conversation, and it publishes on Talk Commerce, the ecommerce podcast I host, which has more than 500 episodes behind it.

Free interviews are audio-only and may end up in a compilation episode about the event. We cannot guarantee clips or full high-resolution video on the free interviews. This is strictly time-driven and resource-driven. Paid interviews are always put in front of free.

Where will your interview video appear?

The full video publishes on the Talk Commerce YouTube channel, my show’s channel, where the full conversation lives, with your name and company in the title and description.

Your episode also gets its own page on talk-commerce.com (or a compilation page if free), with the video, an audio player, and a written summary of the conversation, so anyone who looks up your brand and the event finds one place that has it all. Talk Commerce shares each episode on its LinkedIn, Facebook, and Bluesky accounts. (Sometimes X)

For paid interviews, your team receives edited clips with full permission to use them on your channels, website, email campaigns, and sales decks, and the clips and published episode arrive within two weeks of the event. Paid interviews also include the raw footage.

Free interviews can not be guaranteed for video clips and sharing. 90% of the time we do a video with the audio.

Where will your interview audio appear?

The audio publishes as an episode on the Talk Commerce podcast feed, which reaches Apple Podcasts and Spotify, along with the player on the episode page at talk-commerce.com.

The podcast feed matters for your brand because it puts your interview in front of listeners who never open YouTube, people who hear the episode on a run, in the car, or at the gym, with the phone in a pocket.

Why pay for a Talk Commerce interview?

We put our love into every interview; the difference is how much time we take to interview and how much time we have afterward for post-editing.

A paid conference interview runs about fifteen minutes, long enough for a full podcast episode and a YouTube video, where the spotlight interview runs about three minutes. The extra time lets your team tell the story behind a product launch, and it gives me enough material to cut several clips for social media along with B-roll footage of your booth.

Your team also takes home the raw footage, so your editors can cut versions for your website, email campaigns, and sales decks. We also build a LinkedIn article on Brent’s profile from the conversation, putting the interview in front of tens of thousands of people in Brent’s LinkedIn network.

Brands that want written content on top of the video and audio can add the Full Content Package, where Content Cucumber’s writers turn the same conversation into blog articles, case studies, and social posts.

Speaking of Case Studies, if you have clients at the event, we can capture their happiness live on video for you to use forever!

How to sound good for the people who hear you

We guide the conversation, so you don’t have to memorize a script. If the camera makes you nervous, look at Brent or Isaac and talk the way you would with a buyer who stopped at your booth.

Say the product name out loud. When you hold up a new product on camera, listeners have no way to know what it is until you name it and say what it does in a sentence.

Describe what you show, too. “This one right here” means nothing in an earbud, so give the product the name a customer would use and one detail that customer would care about.

Say your company name and your role near the start. Introduce yourself, and hearing it again in your own voice helps a listener who joined a few seconds late.

On a hosted interview

Wear headphones, sit in a quiet room, and use a real microphone if you have one. Riverside records each person on a separate track, so a clean room and a decent mic carry through to the finished episode. Headphones stop the echo that laptop speakers feed back into the recording.

At the conference booth

Speak at a normal volume and stay close to the microphone I hand you, because the show floor is loud and a close mic keeps your voice above the noise. We do use super-cool, top-secret sound editing, and it usually makes you sound like a million bucks. But don’t forget about inflation (Brent joke).

What a PR agency can tell its clients

A PR agency booking several brands at one show needs a short answer to pass along, so what do you tell a client who asks where the interview goes? The full video goes to the Talk Commerce YouTube channel, the audio goes to the Talk Commerce podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, the episode gets a page on talk-commerce.com, Talk Commerce promotes it on its social channels, and the brand keeps the edited clips to use under its own name, plus the raw footage from a paid interview.

The conference PR page covers how the interview packages work for agencies, including white-label delivery.

Regardless of paid or free, we want to work with your clients! We are flexible and open to creative ideas. Pitch us and who knows, you might win a Cy Young award.

Book your interview

Each event has a limited number of interview slots. If your brand is heading to a show Talk Commerce covers, pick your package on the conference interview page and plan for an interview that works in an earbud as well as on a screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my Talk Commerce interview video appear?

The full video publishes on the Talk Commerce YouTube channel and on an episode page at talk-commerce.com, and Talk Commerce shares the episode on LinkedIn, Facebook and Bluesky. Free interviews are audio-first and may appear in a compilation episode about the event, so video for them is not guaranteed.

Is there an audio version of my interview?

Yes. Conference interviews and hosted interviews publish on the Talk Commerce podcast feed, which reaches Apple Podcasts and Spotify, with an audio player on the episode page at talk-commerce.com. A free interview may run as part of a compilation episode about the event.

What is the difference between a free and a paid Talk Commerce interview?

Paid interviews are scheduled first, run about fifteen minutes, and include edited clips, B-roll of your booth, the raw footage and a LinkedIn article on Brent Peterson's profile. Free interviews are audio-first and may appear in a compilation episode, and clips and full video are not guaranteed, because of the time and resources available at the event.

How do I prepare for listeners who only hear the interview?

Say your product names out loud, describe anything you hold up on camera, and say your company name and role near the start. For a hosted interview, wear headphones and use a real microphone in a quiet room.

Can my brand use the interview footage on its own channels?

Paid interviews include edited clips with full permission to use them on your website, social channels, email campaigns and sales decks, plus the raw footage. Clips are not guaranteed for free interviews.

Can Talk Commerce record our customers at the event?

Yes. If your clients are at the event, the Talk Commerce team can record them on video at your booth, and you can use the footage as a customer case study.
