Every year, millions of Americans celebrate Halloween, spending billions of dollars on Halloween-related purchases. Your brand can take advantage of this holiday spending by being intentional about your copywriting and the content you create and share during this holiday season.

Here are three tips for writing spooktacular spectacular holiday copy for Halloween:

1. Get in the Halloween spirit

Halloween might not be your personal favorite holiday, but you’d be ghoulish to let the holiday pass without creating some Halloween content for your audience.

Show your followers that you have Halloween spirit by using hashtags that incorporate holiday-related terms like “spooky,” and “eerie,” and posting Halloween themed pictures on your brand’s social media platforms.

While you want to make sure that you are still staying true to your brand’s voice, you should try to incorporate some Halloween terminology into your email newsletters, social media posts, and blog posts. According to SEMrush, the word “Halloween” drives 506 million searches each year. Doing something as simple as making a pun using the word “Halloween” or a related term can help improve your brand’s SEO and visibility during October.

If the idea of including a Halloween pun seems cheesy or petrifying to you, you can also try connecting your Halloween content with your products and services. Does your brand manage rental properties? Try writing a blog post called “4 Landlord Horror Stories You’ll Want to Avoid this Season.” Do you sell dog products? Make a social media post with tips for finding the perfect dog costume for Halloween.

Embracing Halloween will let your followers know that your brand has holiday spirit and foster more engagement on social media.

2. Consider your target audience

There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to writing compelling Halloween content. The type of content that is most effective for a particular brand might not work as well for yours. Don’t try to copy the Halloween copywriting that you see other brands post and expect to have the same results. Keep your target audience in mind.

If your brand is targeting young adults, who are more likely to spend Halloween going to house parties or clubs, you shouldn’t include references to trick-or-treating in your copy.

If your brand is targeting families with younger children, you probably shouldn’t include copy talking about the top five gory horror movies they can watch to celebrate Halloween.

Parents of young children may want blog posts with family-friendly costume ideas or social media contests rewarding the best family pumpkin-carving photos. Young adults may want emails or blog posts featuring lists of fun horror movies to watch with friends or Halloween-themed cocktails they can make for a party.

Tailor your copy to your audience so that they will continue to see that your brand offers relevant and valuable content.

3. Encourage engagement

Roughly 65% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween in 2021. Capitalize on the excitement and buzz surrounding the holiday by making Halloween copy that encourages consumers to actively engage with your brand.

Try making Halloween-related posts that encourage your followers to share their own Halloween stories. For instance, you can try posting a photo of a pumpkin patch or a scarecrow on Instagram with a caption asking your followers to post their favorite Halloween memories.

You can also run contests and giveaways for people who use one of your hashtags to post photos of their Halloween costumes.

This holiday provides the perfect opportunity for you to increase your followers’ interactions with your brand through your copywriting.
