We talked about whether TikTok is a trend or a trendsetter before, and at this point, we think it’s pretty safe to say this app is a trendsetter. As one of the top 10 most downloaded apps in 2019, its popularity is making it more and more interesting to marketers, but few know how to master it as a way to share their message. Here are a few ways you can get started with using TikTok to market your business!

1. User-generated content (UGC)

In this type of marketing, you can use your channel to encourage users to create content on their own channels that supports your product in some way. Take a note from product challenges that went viral on TikTok, like the purple shampoo challenge, and brainstorm what kind of challenge you can create with your product! This is especially useful for targeting Generation Z, which makes up roughly 60% of TikTok users, because they seem to respond better to marketing that involves experiences.

2. Make use of popular hashtag challenges

Hashtag challenges are one of the main ways that users connect while making similar forms of content, and it can be a great way to get your name in front of more people on the platform. Start by joining in a couple of other challenges, and then consider making your own! If you want some inspiration, check out how Dreamworks successfully used a hashtag challenge to promote the release of a new show.

3. Consider influencer marketing

Traditional influencer marketing strategies used on other video platforms, like YouTube, also work on TikTok. Consider networking a bit on the app, and once you’ve gotten used to how the platform works, reach out to influencers who are relevant to your products to see if they’re open to working with you.

Because this platform is relatively new, especially as a marketing tool, it’s not as saturated as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. It’s also cheaper to advertise on because fewer brands are competing for ad placement and sponsorship. Especially if your company is pursuing a younger audience, TikTok can be a great addition to your marketing strategy!
